Welcome to my studio.
I hope my paintings encourage you to slow down and find beauty
in the quiet moments of everyday life.
About
Anna Maria Prioste is a Canadian realist painter whose work celebrates quiet moments of beauty, nature and nostalgia. She signs her work simply as Anna Maria.
Approach
Influenced by her background in architecture and her long career in the building industry, Anna Maria’s approach to painting is both creative and technical. Working primarily in water-mixable oils, she creates carefully composed paintings that blend classical realism with a contemporary aesthetic.
In some works, she deliberately combines realism and abstraction, creating a dialogue between a clearly defined focal point or memory and a more interpretive contemporary background. She is naturally drawn to structure, proportion and detail, while also embracing the subtle qualities of light and atmosphere. She uses a restrained palette to evoke memory and a sense of calm.
Subject Matter
Working primarily in still life and botanical subjects, Anna Maria creates paintings that invite viewers to slow down, reconnect with familiar memories and appreciate the quiet beauty that surrounds us.
Inspiration
Her work is inspired by childhood memories and by the simple beauty of everyday life—flowers gathered from her garden, carefully arranged objects, and moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. She is drawn to capturing a sense of stillness, where time feels suspended and the ordinary becomes meaningful.
Her aesthetic is understated, grounded and elegant. Each piece is an invitation to pause, to notice, and to appreciate the beauty that often goes unseen.
